Answered Prayer

Why is it that sometimes when we receive an answer to prayer we are shocked and can hardly believe it that God actually heard and met the needs of His child? Shouldn't that be the norm? Shouldn't we pray with expectation?

This past week our dryer which has been on the fritz finally died. As I began my devotions that day I remembered a story of a man who needed a refrigerator and the Lord answered His prayer almost immediately. He prayed for it in the morning and while at work that same morning a co-worker came into his office and asked: "You don't need a refrigerator do you?" The man was shocked and told him the story of how theirs had just gone out and how he had just prayed and asked for one that morning. It was a direct result of his request to our heavenly father that day.

As I had my prayer time I reminded the Lord that He meets our daily needs as a family.  I thanked Him for His faithfulness. I worshipped Him for His provision. I told Him of our current needs and circumstance and I asked the Lord to provide a dryer for us. Plain & simple.  Here's our need...You are our Father...we completely rely on you for everything...so please meet this need. Nothing magical, just a son asking his Father for something he needs.

The next morning I met with a friend for coffee who is getting ready to move to a different state. I apologized to him for not being available to help him pack the moving truck since my kids, my dad, and I will be at a Father/Son Weekend at a camp in Minnesota on that day. I asked him if there was anything else that I could do to help.  His reply "You don't happen to need chairs or a dryer do you?"
Did I just hear what I think I heard?  "Did you say you have a dryer you need to get rid of?" I asked with unbelief.  Yes!!!

I then told him how ours had just stopped working the day before and that the night before I asked God to meet our needs and give us one. Yesterday,  I picked up the dryer which actually holds more, is the same brand as our washing machine, and looks like they were bought together. God answered and gave us a dryer!!

Now it doesn't happen like that every time I pray but it happens enough to know that our Father indeed loves to meet our needs and answer our prayers in accordance with His will.  He is a good Father! He loves us!  He wants to meet our needs but sometimes we don't think He cares or listens. I am writing this for one reason...to let you know He cares! He listens! He meets the needs of those who seek Him. Call out to Him today! He is with You and is the giver of all good things!
