When Mason was three years old both Jennifer and I worked full time. We were living in Philadelphia and I would always drop him off at his daycare which was in an old steeple topped white church. I had just finished with staff meeting on this particular day when I received a phone call from Jennifer stating that our perfect little three year old angel had just stabbed his mean old lady teacher with a pencil in the arm. Apparently the kids weren’t supposed to use pencils and he had taken it from her desk and was coloring with it. When she tried to take it away from him at his desk he slammed his hand down onto hers and impaled her with the pencil. We had to go meet with the preschool people and were told Mason had been kicked out of preschool. We were mortified and embarrassed to say the very least. The pastor’s kid kicked out of preschool for stabbing his teacher in the arm.
This morning i was reading in my YouVersion reading plan in Ephesians 4:30. Listen to what it says.
'And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live.
Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be
saved on the day of redemption.’
Ephesians 4:30
There are times when our children bring sorrow to us by the way they live.
Likewise there are times that our actions bring sorrow to God and to the Holy Spirit.
As we live our lives day in and out may we always be aware and make it our aim to bring
glory to God and not sorrow by the way we live. And if you’re a teacher, be sure to
keep your sharpened pencils away from little kids!
